What happens when you cross a comedic Elvis impersonator and musician with a nature-nerd artist and passionate dancer? The answer? DiscoNature! From short video sketches to live shows, DiscoNature have been entertaining and inspiring all ages with their unique take on the world of hiScience and Nature. With her expertise gained through working at the Natural History Museum and also running a local nature group Wild Things, Kaoru has developed her unique Science and Art approach to connect people to nature. Combine this with Joe’s original and eclectic dance music and quick-fire comedy skits and you have an ever expanding Disconature universe waiting to be explored on Youtube and beyond….
In March 2019, Kaoru has teamed up with a singer-song-writer, performer and comedic Elvis impersonator aka JoeIsElvis, Joe Reeve to form DiscoNature. They are nature inspired, multi-media science and art entertainment duo. They are on their mission to connect people to the wild and to power people who stand out for nature and our harmonious world – through laughter!
DiscoNature is multi-dimensional form of science communication aiming to inspire youngsters and grown-ups to explore and discover the amazing natural world. DiscoNature also believes the power of laughter can help people to engage with wildlife conservation and other environmental matters.
In July 2019, they have launched their nature inspired audio-visual extravaganza/ dance party for families, combining science, comedy, music, dance and games – as part of Playground Fest in Stroud.
In November 2019, they have done their first evening show for adults. They develop each show with a whole different natural science themes – e. G. animal behaviour, forensic science, space, biomimetics, life in the dark, sexual nature, dinosaurs & prehistoric life, deadly nature, fungi, cat vs dog, ocean life, bacteria, plants, climate change and more…
They are also open to working on commission-basis and/or tailoring our existing shows according to your needs for both public and private events that you are planning. Our main service includes: interactive shows, dance party/club nights, music&film production, publications and learning resources for schools and early years providers, workshops and festivals.
During the lockdown in April 2020, Kaoru and Joe have set up the DiscoNature’s YouTube channel. They have been making a range of short videos to entertain and inspire all ages especially families with young children to explore doorstep nature and discover fun in their everyday life.
Kaoru and Joe have an endless list of things planned for the future – from music&film production, natural science comedy podcast and alternative art programme & publications… Watch this space!

Kaoru Blackstone

Kaoru is a nature nerd performance/visual artist with her background in science & art, pedagogy, museum & gallery interpretation and public engagement. She is always on a mission to inspire youngsters and grown-ups about the natural world and help them connect to nature as well as each other.
Kaoru has been developing learning programmes at the Natural History Museum in London for the last 14 years. She works on various projects from large-scaled family festivals to curriculum-linked shows and workshops for school audiences.
Kaoru also runs a natural science and art group, Wild Things, in Stroud where she lives, inspiring families to explore wildlife on their doorstep. Throughout her work and life, she values three things – to be adventurous, playful and thoughtful. And, she loves dancing!
